Luangeni MP donates seeds to farmers in Khova and Makangila wards

By SYLVESTER CHISHIMBA

LUANGENI Member of Parliament Moses Moyo has donated various seeds to the residents of Makangila and Khova wards worth more than K100,000 for planting after the projected bad crop yield due to the bad weather experienced as a result of climate change.

Mr Moyo says the seeds are meant to cushion the burden that the poor yields will create on the farmers in his constituency.

Speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), Mr Moyo said he was aware that the late distribution of the inputs under Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) and the weather pattern has contributed to the expected poor yields.

“Yes, President Hakainde Hichilema took a humble step and admitted before our Paramount chief Mpezeni   that the distribution of FISP was not done on time.

“President HH promised that during the next farming season the distribution will be done on time and accordingly. I want to assure you that this year, farming inputs will be delivered on time,” he said.

Mr Moyo, who is also Second Speaker of the National Assembly, said President Hichilema is a listening leader and is very much aware about the difficulties that the farmers faced during the last farming season.

He advised the recipients of the various seeds to use the donated items for their intended purpose in order for them to effectively earn some revenue to be used to supporting their families.

Mr Moyo said it will be disheartening if he finds out that the beneficiaries of the donated seeds are in turn selling the seeds or exchanging with alcohol.

And headman Mulonyeni commended the Luangeni lawmaker for the donation of the seeds to the people of Makangila.

He urged the people to use the seeds in their gardens as this was more like business capital.

The traditional ruler urged the people to plant the seeds given to them by Mr Moyo and later sell their produce.

“This is a good gesture from our Member of Parliament, Mr Moyo  remembers his people and continues to do things meant to improve their livelihood. We never had such an MP in Luangeni before,” he said.
