Kafue sugar employee nabbed for stealing sugar

KAFUE Sugar Company Limited Employee has been slapped with three months’ imprisonment for stealing two bags of brown sugar all valued at k356 with no lawful authority.

Appearing in the Lusaka magistrate court before magistrate Mwandu Sakala was Jimmy Mwanza, 39, driver of Kafue Sugar Limited ac-cused of stealing two bags of brown sugar without lawful authority.

Mwanza said he was hungry and needed to buy some food to eat and to feed the family as he is the breadwinner of the family.

‘’ I only stole two 10kgs of sugar and I have admitted the charge, am asking the court to have leniency on me. I needed to feed my family and it wasn’t my intention but I was so hungry that even the company had not paid us anything.’’ Mwanza said.

Facts are that, on September 24 2021, Mwanza jointly and whilst acting together with others did steal bags of sugar property of Kafue Sugar Company Limited. On that fateful day, the security officer was on duty by the gate side and upon searching he found him with two pockets of brown sugar and quickly reported the matter to the manager who reported the matter to the police.

Police apprehended him and managed to recover the bags of sugar

Court sentenced Mwanza to three months imprisonment with hard labour.

99-YEAR-OLD MAN COMMITS SUICIDE

99-year-old man of Chifunabuli district in Luapula province has committed suicide by hanging himself.

Acting Chifunabuli District Commissioner, Mulenga Muonga told ZANIS that the man hanged himself with a rope to a burglar bar in the liv-ing room.

“I can confirm that a report was received by police in Chifunabuli from Stanicious Mumba aged 63 of Kakote area to the effect that his grandfather of the same abode had committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope to the sitting room burglar bar,” Mr. Muonga said.

He has identified the deceased as Peter Yamba who is suspected to have committed suicide following a long illness from elephantiasis.

“…facts are that the old man had been suffering from elephantiasis for a long time and is believed to have been frustrated that he had the sickness and has out lived all his friends despite his condition, a situation that alleged to have led to him ending his life,” Mr. Muonga ex-plained.

He said prior to his death, the deceased was on several occasions heard saying he would one day end his life.

Relatives suspect no foul play and the body has since been deposited into Lubwe mission hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
