UNGRATEFUL NEPHEW LOCKED UP FOR 2 YEARS

A 23-year old youth of Choma will spend the next 2 years in prison for stealing from his uncle who used to look after him.

This is in a case in which Bryson Mutale stood charged for theft of household goods worth K4,500.

Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but in April, Mutale stole 1 bicycle, four blankets , pairs of trousers, shoes among others all valued at K4,500 the property of his guardian Charles Siyamulibo.

When the matter came up for facts before the Choma Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, Mutale admitted that the facts to be true.

“I was stuck, and since he is my uncle that is why I stole from him instead of stealing from a stranger,” Mutale said

Resident Magistrate Phiri found hMutale guilty in his own admission and convicted him accordingly.

In mitigation Mutale begged for forgiveness and promised the court that he would never steal again.

Magistrate Phiri noted that Mutale was a first offender who never wasted court’s time and such deserved lenience.

“Your conduct of stealing from your uncle is uncalled for and embarrassing especially that he was the one looking after you.I hereby sentence you to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour effective today,” Magistrate Phiri said.
