Petitioning Lubinda’s case absurd-Governance Activist

By MILLENNIUM REPORTER

IT will be absurd for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to U-turn and begin to question the credible sovereignty of the judicial system by suggesting to appeal against the acquittal of Patriotic Front (PF) vice president Given Lubinda.

This is according to a Governance Expert, Wesley Miyanda, in response to ACC’s announced on Friday that it will petition the acquittal of Mr Lubinda in a case he was charged with being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mr Miyanda noted that the judgement from the court depended largely on the same debilitated evidence given by ACC to arrive at the adjudication given to Mr Lubinda which saw him walk to freedom. “Mr Lubinda’s acquittal and that of many others who have been acquitted for similar cases should be an eye opener to Anti-Corruption Commission and other investigative wings,” he said.

Mr Miyanda said thorough investigations need to be done before any arrests are made to avert unnecessary expenses and time wasting.

He stated that stupendous sums of taxpayers’ money have been pumped into the fight against corruption by Government, but regretted that three quarters of cases have turned out to be lifeless.
