ZESCO United fans have called for the dismissal of head coach, George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina, following the team’s 3-1 disappointing defeat to Al Hilal of Sudan in a group C CAF Confederations Cup over the weekend.
Speaking in an interview with The Sun, Zesco United Fans Vice Chairman, Andrew Liyungu, said Zesco United supporters were not happy with the current poor performance of the club in the competition.
The fans have called on the team’s management to consider making changes on the technical bench.
“We can just hope the Exco and the coaching staff hear the cries of the fans as we expect nothing but victory in the coming fixtures, starting with the Nkana game at Chilata this weekend in Kitwe,” Liyungu said.
Liyungu said the fans were now calling For ‘Chickens’ head as whispers of “bring back’’ Tenant Chembo, alias TC, keeps getting louder within the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“Bring TC back and fire the underperforming coach. TC was far much better than Lwandamina. He was good both away and home games,” said Liyungu.
“Things need to change at ZESCO. The team was tipped to win Confederation Cup, but now lie last in Group C. Only one win against Nkana at home and one draw and two loses is not good for a club of ZESCO’s caliber,” Liyungu added.
Liyungu said the fans were now questioning Lwandamina’s tactics and selection of players.
“Jacob Banda allowed two silly avoidable goals to add to his long string of error prone goalkeeping career. Why he has survived for so long as Zesco United first choice keeper no one knows,” he said.
“We have been losing form since we beat Kaizer Chiefs and the fans won’t seat anymore and watch their loved team deteriorate. Time Exco made drastic changes,” Liyungu said.
Zesco United has now gone 5 games without a win in both the Zambian super league and in the CAF, the worst run of results the team has ever recorded.
