THE UPND government is deliberately starving citizens by restricting them to the Zambia National Service (ZNS) Eagle Milling mealie meal which is not accessible in most parts of the country because local private millers are being suffocated and killed, Brenda Nyirenda has said.
And Ms Nyirenda, the Patriotic Front Lundazi Member of Parliament says the UPND has converted the ZNS Eagle mealie meal into a campaign tool which it has been using to hoodwink Zambians that it had reduced the price of mealie meal when it had remained unaffordable for citizens.
Ms Nyirenda said in an interview that Lundazi had been hit by an acute shortage of mealie meal because the Eagle mealie meal was only delivered once and there has never been mealie meal since then as local millers were not being allowed to mill and supply.
She said the government had contracted ZNS through its Eagle Milling to allegedly import Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) which was said to be for export to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and yet the commodity was being sold and consumed in the country.
matter is the price of mealie meal has remained astronomical and beyond the reach of many citizens. The people benefitting from Eagle mealie meal are those who are buying it in bulk and reselling the commodity,” Ms Nyirenda said.
“Speaking for Lundazi, this so-called Eagle mealie meal was only delivered once and the stock ran out as the truck was leaving,” Ms Nyirenda said.
