Mr. Danny Mukanaka, aged 55, was attached and killed by a crocodile as him and another fisherman, identified as Alfred Hazaala, 27, both Kanyelele Compound in Siavonga, were illegally fishing on the Zimbabwean side of Lake Kariba.

The body of a Zambian fisherman, killed by a crocodile in Zimbabwe last week, was scheduled to be repatriated to Zambia, through the Kariba border post, on Monday, according to reliable sources.

Mr. Hazala managed to swim to safety but was quickly apprehended by Zimbabwean security forces who later released him following intervention of the Zambia authorities.

A check by The Sun, at both Kariba border post and at the funeral house in Kanyelele compound found relatives awaiting the arrival of the body which was still in the hands of Zimbabwean authorities.

And relatives of the deceased person found at the funeral house called on the Zimbabwean authorities to immediately release the body of their relative so that they can put him to rest.

A relative, who sought anonymity, said that the family had intention to request for a postmortem before the body is buried to clear suspicions that their deceased relative may have infact been shot at by the dreaded ZIM parks rangers while trying to escape from the attacking crocodile.

‘’As a family we are not satisfied that the cause of death for our relative is a crocodile attack. Other factors could have also been at play. We are considering requesting for a post-mortem to be conducted before we bury him,” stated the relative
