Reduce fuel prices further – motorists

MOTORISTS in the tourist resort town of Siavonga have appealed to government to review the fuel pump price on a monthly basis.

Last week, the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) slashed fuel pump prices by 86 ngwee for Petrol and K1.22ngwee for diesel.

The new prices are K15.20 for petrol from K16.06, K13.43 for diesel from k14.65 and k15.72 for low sulphur gas from 16.94, while the price of litre of Kerosene remained unchanged at K11.34.

Speaking in random interviews with the Sun, motorists thanked government for reducing the fuel price saying the move will enable people save some money to channel to other needy areas.

They said review of fuel pump price on monthly basis is the best way to ensure motorists buy their fuel at a correct price every time crude oil is adjusted at the International market as is the case in countries like Botswana.

Denis Simuwe, a pirate taxi driver said the reduction will make it easy for him to make his weekly cashing.

He said though the reduction is minimal, Government must be recommended for the action.

Mr. Simuwe urged ERB to consider reducing the pump price further, at least by K2.

Another motorist, Madaliso Phiri, appealed to ERB and the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency (ZWMA) to regularly monitor the fuelling stations to ensure their pumps have not been tempered with.

He said some fuel station operators are in a habit of stealing from unsuspecting motorists by tempering with the counter system of the pumps.
