UNZA pays out K23.4m to retirees

The University of Zambia has so far paid out about K23.4 million to retirees in its quest to dismantle its outstanding workers’ retirement benefits, says the vice Chancellor Prof. Luke Mumba.

Prof. Mumba said the University is putting in measures to dismantle its debt and help achieve financial sustainability.

He said the University was in the process of reviewing the existing programmes through the introduction of market driven programmes.

“The University has disbursed off about K23.4 million as retirement benefits as of February this year,” he said.

He announced in light with the reviews the university will this year introduce three postgraduate business programmes and four under graduate business degree programmes under the distance mode of learning.

Speaking during the 49th graduation ceremony yesterday, Prof Mumba said that the Soweto block that was burn a four months ago had been rehabilitated at a cost of six hundred thousand kwacha.

And Minister of Transport and Communication Dr Brain Mushimba called Zambian to rise above the mere pursuant of education for curiosity but discover the true purpose of education.

He challenged the graduating students live above board and delivery with excellence in whatever job they go into.

Dr Mushimba was award a Degree in Doctorate of philosophy in Environmental Engineering yesterday.
