A LUSAKA businessman has pleaded not guilty to one count of theft by agent involving K280,000 cash.
Before Lusaka Magistrate Ruth Kapulo on Friday was Douglas Njobvu, 36, of Chunga Township.
Particulars of offence are that between May 30 and June 29, 2018, Njobvu allegedly stole the money from Zabu Mweenda who entrusted him with the cash to buy two motor vehicles on the latter’s behalf.
Njobvu was supposed to buy and deliver the vehicles to Mweenda but he allegedly did not.
Magistrate Kapulo has since granted Njobvu a K15, 000 cash bail with two working sureties who must be government employees. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the clerk of court.
He was remanded in custody until he meets the bail conditions. Trial starts this Friday, February 15, 2019.
In another case before Magistrate Felix Kaoma, a man of Makeni has admitted breaking into a building and committing a felony therein.
Particulars of offence are that on January 19, 2019, Philip Machila, 22, allegedly broke into Sun Soft shop and stole one electric cable, three cutting discs and one pick, altogether valued at K450, property of Mulawo Mwanza
Asked by Mr. Kaoma how he broke into the shop, Machila said: “I used the staircase to enter the building and I found the items along the passage. I was not permitted by the owner.I got all items with the intention of selling them but was caught at the reception” Machila said.
The case has been adjourned to tomorrow for facts and sentencing.
