THE Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Lusaka has commended the government for the enhanced provision of social services and empowerment programmes among the vulnerable in society.
The SDA Southern Zambia Union Conference president Vanny Munyumbwe says the strides that the government is making in infrastructure development as well as improving the livelihoods of the people, are worth hailing and emulating by all stakeholders in supplementing the government’s effort.
Dr. Munyumbwe was speaking during the community service programme at Chawama Level One and Kanyama General Hospitals, under the SDA Community Service Department, were the Dorcas workers and the Adventist Men Organisation rendered a service by cleaning the health facilities and donated assorted groceries and food stuffs worth K17, 000.
“June 18 has been set apart as a day for all SDA churches to offer a community service annually hence the provision of this service in response to this magnificent call the SDA Church,” he said.
Dr. Munyumbwe says the government is doing its part and the rest of the stakeholders are supposed to play a critical role in ensuring that these social services are a success.
And Lusaka Conference president Keith Chumpu has urged the church to adopt organisations and institutions that need assistance with social services and conduct monthly services with them.
“Jesus Christ demonstrated his love for the people of this world by offering his free services to them therefore we need to reciprocate this gesture to other people as well,” Pastor Chumpu said.
Meanwhile, Chawama Level One Hospital officer-in-charge Brian Sichaba has appreciated this timely gesture and he is calling for more stakeholders to come on board and offer more services.
