Prioritise mining sector, Sinkamba urges Gov’t

By MILLENNIUM REPORTER

Green Party president Peter Sinkamba has advised Government to prioritise the mining sector as one of the key drivers going forward if the country’s economy is to be improved.

Mr. Sinkamba says Government should not only concentrate on the International Monetary Fund bailout when the country can utilise its natural resources.

He says the delay to conclude issues surrounding the Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines is evidence enough that the mining sector is not Government’s priority.

He says although Government says it has reached 90 percent in identifying potential investors for the two mines, the wait has been long overdue.

Mr. Sinkamba says Zambia’s economy can positively grow once the mining sector is prioritised as one of the key drivers in the country.
