Mining union hopeful about KCM deal

THE United Mining Workers Union says with the revelations that Government has reached 90 percent negotiations to finding investors for Konkola and Mopani Copper Mine (KCM), the union is confident of increased production at the mine.

Government has disclosed that 90 percent negotiations when it comes to finding an investor for Konkola and Mopani Copper mine

United Mining Workers Union president Wisdom Ngwira has explained that at the speed at which Government is moving when it comes to the negotiations, current reduced economic activities on the Copperbelt will be a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Mr Ngwira has called for the need to strengthen laws when it comes to the issue of laying off workers in the mining sector.

He says it is regrettable that mining companies have continued laying off workers during their restructure process without considering the huge consequences on the economy.
