The Prisoners Reintegration Organization (PREO) has embarked on a chicken rearing project to support ex-convicts ahead of the commissioning of a transit home in Lusaka.

Executive Director, Derick Malumo said, the organization prioritizes the welfare of both inmates and former inmates.

Mr. Malumo stated that, the organization is determined to provide support to former inmates to help them reintegrate into society through small business ventures.

“We want to see to it that ex-convicts start a good life than what we are seeing these days.

Many times life for ex-convicts become difficult because they no income to start a new life away from prison. But with the initiative we have come up with it will help them to have atleast some income to sustain their lives.

“Some times these ex-convicts are not welcomed by their families, they will have no home, no food, so if they are helped in some way they are able to manage themselves and pick up from there,” he said. And Mr Malumo said, the organisation will soon commission a former prisoners’ transit home in Lusaka.
