…Forest Rangers eying ABSA Cup and Super League

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

FOREST Rangers assistant coach Kennedy Kashobondo says beating FAZ Super League leaders Power Dynamos in the semifinals of the ABSA Cup has given the Ndola outfit extra motivation to fight for a double by winning both the ABSA Cup and the league.

On Saturday, Rangers came from behind to beat Power Dynamos 2-1 at Arthur Davies Stadium thanks to second half goals from Moyela Libamba and Cephas Mulombwa.

Frederick Mulambia had put Power Dynamos ahead just after six minutes into the first stanza thanks to a Thomas Chideu assist.

However, Forest Rangers fought back with Moyela Libamba grabbing the equaliser in the 69th minute before Cephas Mulombwa punished Power Dynamos with an injury time winner from a sublime header.

In an interview, Kashobondo hailed his charges for putting up a spirited fight to reach the ABSA Cup semifinals

“It was not an easy game, you saw how Power came. We were one down until we pushed in the second half and we got a winning goal,” Kashobondo said.

“It is so amazing because that is what we planned for to say we need to qualify for the ABSA Cup final and God has pushed us this far and our prayer is to see Forest getting the ABSA Cup for the first time.

“This is excellent motivation which will push us forward as we look to finish among the top four or even get the league because we still have six games to go and it is possible,” he said.

Asked which team Forest Rangers was hoping to meet in the ABSA Cup final, Kashobondo said; “I will be realistic because both Trident and Muza are good.

For these two teams to reach this far, means they are good teams so whichever team wins for us that team is welcome we are ready to face any team.”

The ABSA Cup final is set for May 13 at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka with the winners set to pocket K700, 000 while the runners up will walk away with K350, 000.
