INJECT MORE RESOURCES IN ZNS MILLING PLANTS,  GOVT TOLD

By VITA BANDA

THE Golden Party Zambia (GPZ) has urged the new dawn government to inject more resources in the Zambia National Service milling plants.

Party President Jackson Silavwe said, this will enable the ZNS to produce more mealie meal to sustain the country’s demand.

Mr Silavwe said, the current interventions put up by government to arrest the mealie meal shortage are haphazard and uncoordinated.

The opposition leader said, the government need to ensure that production is enhanced for the country to be at the safer side.

He said, if the ZNS is well empowered it will be able to scale up production thereby meet the current demand instead of thinking to import the commodity.

Mr Silavwe wondered why the government could opt to import the commodity instead of thinking of measures that will improve production.

“This is the same government failing to stop export of maize and mealie meal, we don’t know what they are really thinking because they can see what is happening in the country,” he said.

And Mr Silavwe appealed to government to review downwards the amount of maize exports from 1.2 million metric tons to 200,000 metric tonnes.
