244 Siavonga residents get bursaries

By ANDREW MUKOMA

The Siavonga Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee has awarded bursaries to 244 residents who applied for scholarships in skills development and secondary school education.

This follows recommendations by the Siavonga CDF committee to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Siavonga District Council public relations officer Gwendolyn Mwanza said in a statement that out of the 244 beneficiaries, 65 students had been sent to Nirvana Skills Centre in Mufulira.

During a send-off event on Friday, council chairperson Given Kwapu with   District Commissioner Jeoffrey Jakopa and CDF committee chairperson Lubinda Mubiana, advised the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity to improve their lives once they complete their studies.

Mr Kwapu told the beneficiaries that the district had a lot of opportunities, which awaited them.

He said Siavonga was poised for development as some investors had expressed interest to invest in the area.

Mr Kwapu said this would create employment opportunities for youths and women in the district.
