CHIEF Hamusonde of Ila-Lundwe people in Monze has asked the Ministry of Education to temporarily close schools on his Chiefdom due to the floods that have devastated his area.
The traditional leader has made the request through Monze District Education Board Secretary (DEBS).
The chief has disclosed that it has become too risky for children to continue going to school when the area is flooded and all crossing points on streams are under water.
He has also appealed to government through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to immediately send tents for people whose houses have collapsed.
Bweengwa Member of Parliament Michelo Kasauta had earlier promised to engage DMMU National Coordinator Gabriel Pollen to visit Bweengwa among other affected constituencies and assess the situation in the area.
And over the weekend, DMMU National Coordinator Dr Pollen and a team of Members of Parliament tasked to assess the situation conducted an aerial view surveillance in affected areas such Mumbwa, Itezhi-tezhi, Namwala, Monze, Mazabuka and surrounding areas to ascertain the effects of the floods.
