Failure by police to arrest unruly UPND cadres worries EF – it is an assault on Zambia’s democracy and press freedom

By SHERRY CHABALA

ECONOMIC Front (EF) national spokesperson, Humphrey Kabwe says it is disappointing that police in Chingola and  Mufulira have failed to arrest well-known UPND cadres who harassed journalists and blocked Economic and Equity Party president Chilufya Tayali from featuring on a paid for radio programme.

Mr Kabwe said it was surprising that no arrests had been made despite the fact that the case was reported to police a fortnight ago.

He said failure to arrest the perpetrators was an assault on press freedom and democracy as the cadres would not be deterred from causing harm to citizens with divergent views in future.

Mr Kabwe called on the Copperbelt police command to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

He added that the ruling UPND should deliver on campaign promises to improve the lives of Zambians   if they wanted citizens to refrain from criticizing the new dawn government.

Mr Kabwe said Zambians were voicing out because they were not happy with the high cost of living among other challenges that the country was facing.
