SDA wins kudos over charity work

By CHARLES MUSONDA

YOU have scored a great milestone of missionary work through young people who are building churches and houses for vulnerable people, government has told the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church.

Lusaka district task force chairman Morgan Muunda says the SDA has played a bigger role as a torch bearer to other churches in the district to ensure they continue engaging government to build infrastructure for vulnerable people.

Mr. Muunda said this at a handover of a house worth between K150, 000 and K200, 000 built by SDA Kamulanga youths and government for disabled church member Evaristo Kapolyo and his family in Kuku compound.

He said government has increased social cash transfer for young vulnerable people from K250 to K800 under President Hichilema’s leadership. He said government’s commitment for the community is to ensure young people have access to decent jobs from it.

Mr. Muunda invited the youths to ensure they submit application for jobs in the defence forces where it has provided 2,000 and more than 3,000 jobs in the police service and Zambia Army, respectively adding that more than 5,000 others have been created in the local government for young people.

He said President Hichilema has brought a paradigm shift in the management of Zambia through decentralisation which has seen recruitment of young people done in every district.

Mr. Muunda said the Lusaka district commissioner’s office headed by Ms. Rosa Zulu, who was not present at the event, has empowered more than 60 youth cooperatives in Chawama constituency with K1 million and that church cooperatives have access to cooperative funding.

He said next month government will start disbursing constituency development fund to benefit youths and women whom he urged to continue supporting the government of the day.

And SDA Lusaka district conference president Pastor Keith Chuumpu said the church has demonstrated proper evangelism so that the gospel is seen practically.

Pastor Chuumpu said everybody can others especially this festive season because there is always someone who is less privileged than others. He said people should do something for others so that they can appreciate and see love of the gospel through help.

He said thanked everyone involved in charity work and that the SDA will work with everyone who is trying to dignify other human beings’ livelihood.
