Police retrieve two bodies from Longridge dam

The bodies of the two men who died in Longridge dam in Chilanga yesterday have been retrieved by the Zambia Police marine.

The incident happened yesterday around 08:00 hours, when  Derrick Nyambe Maluma, 40 a resident of Kalululushi on the Copperbelt who is an engineer for MELTS a subsidiary of ZCCM was on a canoe with 39 year old Kent Ngosa of Mutendere Compound when it capsized in Longridge dam. 

Chilanga District Commissioner David Sheleni confirmed the development to ZANIS today that the first body of Mr Maluma was retrieved around 08:00 hours this morning when it was found floating on top of the water. 

He said the second body of Mr Ngosa was retrieved this afternoon and both bodies have been positively identified by relatives. 

He stated that both bodies have since been deposited in the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary. 

Mr Sheleni also disclosed that a meeting is underway with the proprietor of Longridge dam which is one of recreation centres in the District to enhance security measures to help safe guard lives. 

He also urged people who go to the dam to seek assistance from the people who work at the center before engaging in any water activities as a safety measure. – ZANIS
