Four die in Solwezi RTA

FOUR people have died on the spot after the vehicle they were in collided with an oncoming fuel tanker on the Solwezi Chingola road.

The accident is believed to have happened at Antheneon area at 12:20 hours as the driver of the Toyota Ipsum registration number ABT 2713 collided with an oncoming fuel tanker as he was overtaking another vehicle.

Northwestern Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Fred Mulenga confirmed the incident this evening and identified the deceased as Evans Kivunda aged 43 who was the driver of the Toyota Ipsum, Spencer Sinyangwe aged 32, and Chris Kabulundi aged 34 all of Kabitaka area in Solwezi and unidentified man.

“RTA happened at 12:20 hours at Antheneon area along Solwezi Chingola road, involved was Kivunda Evans 43 of Kabitaka area Solwezi who was driving a Toyota Ipsum registration number ABT 2713 from East to West, in the process of overtaking another vehicle collided with an oncoming fuel tanker, FAW truck reg number AJE 6772, BBA 3132T property of Mount Meru fuel company, “Dr Mulenga said.

Dr Mulenga said Kivunda and the three passengers on board sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot adding that the bodies have been taken to Solwezi general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

“The Toyota Ipsum is extensively damaged while the truck had its front bumper damaged. The driver of the Toyota Ipsum was to blame for overtaking,” Dr Mulenga said. 

Dr Mulenga has encouraged motorists to observe traffic rules to avoid loss of life.
