POLICE STOP MINI RIOT IN MTENDERE

Quick action by police on Sunday stopped a mini riot in Mtendere Township after an incident in which a male juvenile Frederick Mwisa was electrocuted.

The incident happened around 1900 hours near Mtendere Clinic.

Mother to the juvenile Mariana Mumbi, aged 62 and resident in Mtendere reported that her grandchild male juvenile Mwisa aged 07 was electrocuted whilst playing near a makeshift stall from a live electricity cable.

A mini riot then erupted but police quickly moved in and quelled it by dispersing all those that wanted to take advantage of the situation to loot innocent people’s shops using teargas.

Police spokesperson Mwata Katongo said in a statement that suspected rioters however damaged one shop and stole all second hand pairs of shoes.

Katongo said the value of property stolen had not yet been ascertained as the owner of the shop was not available at time if occurrence.

She said investigations have been instituted in the matter of the electrocution and also with a view of arresting those who looted the shop.
The body of the deceased is in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem.
