Mr. Nkandu said, President Hakainde Hichilema, during the official opening of Parliament last week, reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the plight of the youths.
The Minister of Youth and Sports said to actualize such commitment, he needed to engage various technocrats and other sectors heads to draw programs aimed at improving the welfare of the young people.
In an interview yesterday, Mr. Nkandu said as a minister overseeing the affairs of the youths, he would like to see youths that were determined and willing to participate in the economic turnaround of the country. That would do by tapping into various youth programs that would be made available through his office.
Mr. Nkandu said he would ensure that President Hichilema’s assurance to enhance the provision of equitable access to economic opportunities in mining, construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and other opportunities were made available to all the youths regardless of their background.
“The youths played a big role in August elections and this should be acknowledged. They are looking forward to us to deliver, to implement various programs from which they can benefit, my office will work closely with technocrats and other sector heads.” He said.
Mr. Nkandu called for stakeholders’ participation to better the lives of the youths and foster national development.
He said to spur economic growth, there should be peace and unity embraced among all Zambians.
