COW LANDS MAN IN COURT


 A 44 year old man of Itezhi Tezhi district in Central Province is in court for injuring a cow.

Shepherd Mwenda, of Nangula village in Chief Chilyabufu’s Chiefdom in Itezhi Tezhi is charged with one count of injuring a cow contrary to section 334 of the penal code   cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that on March 7, 2020, Shepherd Mwenda in Itezhi Tezhi district of Central Province, did injure a cow valued at K5, 000, property of Luckson Mooba.

Mwenda pleaded not guilty to the charge recently.

When the matter came up for continued trial before magistrate Mugala Chalwe today, the court was informed that the Veterinary officer, who was scheduled to testify, was out of the district for other official duties.

And Magistrate Chalwe adjourned the matter to 12 May 2020 for continued trial.

Causing injury to animal is serious offence in the Zambian penal code and if convicted, he can be sent to jail.
