KANGOMBE GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE

SESHEKE Member of Parliament (MP), Romeo Kangombe, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for assault and abduction of two police officers.

Chinsali Senior Resident Magistrate, Julius Malata, has however, suspended the sentence for two years during which Kangombe should not commit a similar offence.

The magistrate has also ordered that the K300 which was paid to the two police officers for transport by the convict be forfeited to the state.

This is in accordance with article 355 of the criminal procedure court chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia.

On Wednesday last week, Kangombe was convicted on charges of assault and abduction of two police officers and remanded in Chinsali Correctional Facility, awaiting sentence. – ZANIS
