Assault cases stalls, adjourned to February 15

TRIAL in a matter where five family members are accused of assaulting a man has failed to continue.

This is in a case before Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale where Muleta Mutemwa 25 of Chilenje, Mutemwa Francina 37,  a business lady of Chalala, Mary Kazeze, 40 a businesswoman of Chilenje, Godwin Lufumpa 27 an internal  auditor  of Hillview Park, Nora Mutemwa 56 of Hillview are accused of assaulting Mr Chrisantius Changwereza causing him actual bodily harm.

In the last sitting, Mr Kondwani Masuwa, a police officer testified that he received a report of assault on July 19, 2020.

He said Mr. Changwereza complained that a family of five assaulted him after a misunderstanding.  He sustained bruises on his right leg, painful left hand and swollen forehead.

He said Mr. Changwereza said he knew the people who assaulted him and also presented a medical report given to him from the hospital.

Mr. Masuwa said he interviewed the suspects and because they did not give satisfactory answers, charged and arrested them for the offence of assault occasionally actual bodily harm.

The matter failed to take off on Friday as the presiding court was not available.

The matter has been adjourned to February 15 2021 for mention and February 2, 2021 for trial.
