CHINGOLA Municipal Council health officers yesterday fumigated and disinfected the civic centre in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.

The workers were therefore sent home to pave way for fumigation and disinfection of all offices at the Civic Centre.

Other places that were disinfected included outskirts council offices, libraries, markets and bus stations.

Council Public Health Director Fred Nkonde said the exercise was.undertaken because Council officers interacted with numerous people on a daily  basis.

Mr Nkonde said this exposed the workers to the covid-19 virus.

Mr Nkonde stated that in addition to the health guidelines, there was need to disinfect the offices so that the lives of the workers were safeguarded.

He said that the council had also limited the number of staff to be operating in the offices to reduce congestion as per circular from the Ministries of Health and Local Government.

The workers have been cautioned to follow the rotation duty rota without any difficulty.
