FOR breaking a car windscreen after a drinking spree, a 26-year-old barman has been ordered to do three weeks community service in Choma.

Ronald Mbewe, a resident of Shah Township appeared in the Choma Magistrates charged with malicious damage to property contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Mbewe willfully and unlawfully damaged the rear windscreen of a vehicle bearing registration Number AJE 890 valued at K700 the property of Ms Martha Mushe.

The incident happened at Choma’s Kalukungu Market on December 20, 2020 where Mbewe. Was drinking.

When he appeared for plea before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, Mbewe admitted shattering the windscreen and blamed the act on alcohol.

“I admit to damaging the screen, but at that time I was drunk ….and when I am drunk I become confused,” he told the court.

Magistrate Mupemo entered a plea of guilty and later convicted him after he admitted that the facts read by Senior Public Prosecutor Alex Syulikwa were a true reflection of what happened.

According to the facts, Mbewe was seen by Ms Mushe getting a brick and throwing it directly at her vehicle when she went to do her shopping at the market.

The court committed Mbewe to three weeks community service at the court’s premises for his criminal behaviour or in default to serve three months in prison.
