A POLICE officer says a suspect he apprehended refused to sign a seizure notice for the suspected drugs he was found with.
Detective Inspector Shula told Lusaka Magistrate Betty Malupenga on Monday that he found the accused Wilson Mukoma Makaliki with herbs that contained seeds wrapped in a plastic and a khaki paper after apprehending him.
Mr. Shula said on February 9, he was leading a team of eight officers on patrol in Lusaka’s Chalala area when they came across an unregistered Toyota Hilux parked in the dark on Coral Road.
He said there was a group of about five people who seemed drinking beer.
“I was driving a police van and when I parked next to the Toyota Hilux two people jumped into the vehicle and others ran into their yard and locked themselves inside.
“The driver of the Toyota Hilux sped off but we gave chase. We managed to intercept the vehicle on Lilayi Road near Choppies. We took the driver and a lady he was with to Godfrey Miyanda police post, which was the nearest. After searching the suspect, I found two balls containing suspected psychotropic substance in his shirt’s pocket,” Mr. Shula said. He said he then detained Makaliki for further investigations before handing over the matter to Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers.
He then issued a seizure notice but Makaliki refused to sign it.
Trial continues on March 22 and Makaliki was remanded in custody.
