A Lusaka man has been jailed three years for burglary and theft of properly worth K10,900.

Appearing at the Lusaka magistrates court before magistrate Nsunge Chanda was Luyando Simangolwa the accused.
Facts were that Simangolwa on October 2020 stole a carpet, television set, two bed sheets and a Go TV decoder property of Joseph Mumba.
Mumba left his house secured and went to pick up a person who booked him at the airport.
When he returned home, he found his house had been broken into and some property stolen.
Mumba reported the matter to the police and all the property was recovered.
Simangolwa pleaded for mercy from the court saying he was sorry for what he did and that court should lenient with him.
He said he will never again break into someone’s house at night because he has learned a lesson the period in custody.
Magistrate Chanda said the court is affected because she has to work up during the night to check if her property is safe.
She said Simangolwa is young and able to work to acquire those things he went to steal.
She said people are living in fear because of people like Simangolwa who go about breaking into people’s homes at night when they are not around.
The court jailed Simangolwa three years imprisonment with hard labour effective today.
