“I have no problem with him insulting me but him insulting my parents big insults such as, private parts of my mother privates part of my father in public as if he has seen them is something I won’t let him get away with, if he continues I maybe forced to do something ill regret,” a woman complained in the Kanyama local court said.
A Kanyama resident based in Lusaka has asked for divorce because her husband has the habit of insulting her parents when he is drunk.
Mable Mutale, 26 a house wife of the mentioned location has sued her husband, Nathan Mulenga 30, a self-employed electrician of the same area for constantly insulting her parents.
Details of the case are that the two got married in 2017, under traditional law with K5000 bride price partially paid. The two have a one child, boy 2 and problems began when Nathan started taking alcohol.
Mutale told the Kanyama Local Court that before her husband started taking alcohol their marriage was okay and that he was responsible.
She said it was in June, 2020 when Nathan got fired at his former company when he started taking beer to cure his frustration which has now led to insults including her parents.
“I have no problem with him insulting me but him insulting my parents big insults such as, private parts of my mother privates part of my father in public as if he has seen them is something I won’t let him get away with, if he continues I maybe forced to do something ill regret,” Mutale said.
She added that one day Nathan insulted her parents in front of the neighbors when her mother had come to visit.
In his defense Mulenga refused ever insulting his parents’ in-law but agreed that he wanted divorce because his wife was not supportive.
He said his wife was not innovative in anyway that can help them improve their lives as if she never reached grade 12 and took commerce as a subject.
“it’s ok let the marriage end, we are only in court because when I gave her money to start a business she bought hair which I burnt and I insulted her for being careless once not her parents, this woman is very dull, nafipwe mweh,” he said.
In passing Judgement magistrate Mubukwanu Matalaka after hearing from witnesses from both sides granted Mable divorce because their marriage had become toxic.
The court ordered the two to equally share whatever property they have acquired while being together in the presence of their parents.
