Trafficker’s parents face arrest

MULENGA MUSONDA writes

The Choma Juveniles Court has ordered for the arrest of the parents of a 15 years old Boy who has been brought to Court barely one month after he was convicted and put on probation for trafficking in Marijuana.

Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo said even if it meant that the parents are tired of their child’s bad behaviour they’re bound by Law to appear before Court alongside their child.

Magistrate Mupemo issued the arrest warrant of the parents after they failed to show up on two consecutive days of their child’s appearance in Court in a matter he is charged with trafficking in Cannabis barely one month after he was convicted for a similar offence.

The Court was pushed to its decision after the juvenile seemed elusive about the whereabouts of his parents .This was after the Probation Officer Elizabeth Nshimbi also explained to the Court that the Juvenile had been giving her contradicting statements and efforts to locate the parents in Choma’s Zambia Township proved futile.

Early this month the same Court convicted the Juvenile for trafficking in over 500gms of Cannabis which he said he was smocking.

Particulars of the offence are that the 15 years old Juvenile trafficked in 512gms of Marijuana, a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation.

The incident happened on  May 7, 2020 and the Juvenile was apprehended on the same day.

In this offence the Court discharged the juvenile and ordered that he undergoes counselling for one month and that the Welfare Department should give a full dossier at the end of the session.
