DEC raid Church, arrest ECL’s associate, Mbaya

By NATION REPORTER

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) yesterday raided a Church in Nyumba Yanga and  brutally picked up one of former President Edgar Lungu’s associates Martin Mbaya.

Mr Mbaya was whisked to the DEC offices where he was interrogated before being driven to his house when officers broke and forced themselves into his house searching for what has come to be known as proceeds of crime.

Mr Mbaya and his family were attending church service in Nyumba Yanga when officers claiming to be from DEC hauled out of Church much to the dismay and shock of other congregants.

Efforts to get a comment from DEC director general Nason Banda proved futile as his mobile phone went unanswered by press time.

However, sources close to the matter said they were yet to establish the reasons for which Mr Mbaya had been embarrassingly picked and that it was difficult to tell what they were looking for.

“They are saying they are looking for proceeds of crime,” a source said.

The DEC team that raided the Church in Nyumba Yanga and later Mr Mbaya’s house was being led by a Mr. Jones Siansamba.

Reports were to the effect that upon arrival at his house in Meanwood, the officers were directed to break the door and move in to conduct a search and by press time, the search was still underway.
