A MAN of Choma shocked the Choma Magistrates Court when he said he was using Cannabis to treat his Haemorrhoids because he had seen how the affliction had led to his father’s death.
This was in a case in which Nasser Chileyi Mugoba of Batoka area in Choma is charged with trafficking in Psychotropic Substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Mugoba on 15 April 2020 in Choma trafficked in 60 grammes of Marijuana a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation.
When he appeared for a plea before Resident Magistrate Seliya Kanunka, he willingly admitted the charge read to him.
Court: Do you understand the charge against you?
Mugoba: I understand
Court: How do you plead?
Mugoba: I admit
Court: Did you traffick in 60.0gms of Marijuana?
Mugoba: Yes, it was found in my possession.
Court: Why were you found with it?
Mugoba: I have Haemorrhoids and I use it with other herbs to treat this condition which my father died of, though he was using the same treatment as well.
Court: But your father died, and you go on to use it? This is shocking to me.
Mugoba: I wanted to see if it works.
Court: I record a plea of guilty.
The matter was adjourned to 4 May 2020 for Facts as the Court awaits the public analyst report.
Mugoba was remanded in custody.
