NAIROBI, KENYA – Three suspected thugs were at the weekend shot dead in a botched robbery in Nairobi.

The three were slain in Marurui area after a confrontation with police that left one officer injured.

An AK 47 rifle was found on the suspects, police said.

Officers from Flying Squad had trailed the men to the area on Thursday night before they were caught. The salon car they were using was badly damaged.

This increased to five, the number of suspects killed in the week.

Two others had been killed earlier on Tuesday in a confrontation with police along Waiyaki Way. The men were trying to rob motorists when one of the affected motorists, shot back and killed the two.

Their bodies were moved to the mortuary. Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo said they had enhanced patrols in the city to tame robbery incidents.
