More chase after Shonga

MUKWIMA CHILALA writes

ZAMBIA national soccer team and Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga could be set for a move away from the Soweto outfit with interest in his services mounting, the South African media report.

According to South Africa’s Kickoff.com, the Chipolopolo striker has attracted interest from Tanzanian soccer giants Simba.

“Kickoff.com has since gathered confirmation that Shonga has indeed attracted interest from Tanzanian outfit Simba SC, who earlier this reached their maiden CAF Champions’ League quarterfinals,” the report said.

However, at this stage, the two clubs have yet to come to an agreement over his transfer, while it is believed that interest from Europe has also developed in The Buccaneers’ attacker.

Pirates recently sold defender Marshall Munetsi to French Ligue 1 side Reims, and it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to let go of their main striking option, too.

The Absa Premiership runners-up have since signed Bloemfontein Celtic striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who could be a possible replacement for the outgoing Shonga.

Shonga joined Pirates towards the start of the 2017/18 season from Zambia Super League side Nkwazi FC and has since risen to prominence at Orlando Pirates.

The 22-year- year old has become coach Milutin Sredojevic’s preferred option upfront, ahead of his Chipolopolo teammate Augustine Mulenga.

His exploits for the Zambia national team have also not gone unnoticed, with the police officer having netted seven goals in 15 international appearances.

With the Premier Soccer League of South Africa currently on recess, Shonga is currently with the Zambia national team that has been away on national duty taking part in international friendlies.

Orlando Pirates, who are the Absa Premiership runners-up have since signed Bloemfontein Celtic striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who could be a possible replacement for the outgoing Shonga.
