THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka woman to pay K700 she borrowed six months ago.
Stella Tembo, 45, a cleaner of Mtendere Township, was sued by Martha Banda, 42, of Chilenje South over the outstanding debt.
Banda said Stella came borrowed K500 from her in December, 2018.
She said Stella promised to pay back the money before the end of December.
“We agreed for her to put interest of K250. I waited up to the 5th of January, 2019. I called her and she wasn’t picking my calls,” Banda said.
“Time has passed. It is over six months now. I want her to return my money,” she said.
The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe.
Tembo said she talked to Stella’s sister asking to borrow K500.
She said she told her that the money belonged to Stella.
“I borrowed the money and promised to pay before the end of December. I said I would add a K200 interest,” she said.
“I needed the K500 to add up because I want to get a loan from my work place,” she said.
“I have not paid her because there were other loans I was paying up. I has been six months since I got money and I will pay her,” Tembo said.
The court ordered her to pay the K700 month-end of June 2019.
