Nakambala lose appeal against Warriors

MUKWIMA CHILALA writes

THE FAZ appeals committee has thrown out an appeal by Nakambala Football Club’ against the  decision to award Kabwe Warriors three points for week 13 match played at Godfrey Chitalu stadium for lack of merit.

FAZ communication manager Mwazi Chanda said the Appeals Committee upheld the earlier decision by the lower organ, the disciplinary committee to award Warriors the three points.

In a statement Chanda said that according to the ruling by the Appeals Committee, the appeal by Nakambala had been thrown out for lack of merit.

“Having considered the appeal by Nakambala Leopards FC, we are of the firm view that the appeal is devoid of any merit. It is clear that Nakambala Leopards FC attended the Disciplinary Committee hearing on 8th May, 2019 and they were given a chance to be heard,

“Therefore, we believe that the Disciplinary Committee rightfully applied the provisions of the Disciplinary Code in view of the facts of this case.” reads the verdict in part

The Appeals Committee upheld the decision of the Disciplinary Committee that awarded three points, a 3-0 score-line and K5, 000 fine.

“We therefore, uphold the entire findings of the Disciplinary Committee and indeed confirm the fine imposed on Nakambala Leopards FC and the subsequent forfeiture of the match and awarding of the 3 points to Kabwe Warriors FC with a 3-0 score line,” says the statement.

She said that the facts of the matter were that during the 88th minute of play, a Warriors fan went onto the field to celebrate a goal.

But overzealous police officer discharged a tear gas canister towards the crowd which resulted in a big protest from the spectators.

“At that point, the crowd started throwing objects at the security personnel who led to the game being halted for a while,”

The situation was controlled as all security measures were put in place and the referee ordered that the game be played but the Nakambala refused to play.
