A KALUMBILA mine truck driver Godfrey Chisenga has been ordered by the local court to compensate his disrespectful and not so business-minded wife with K20, 000 after he succeeded in divorcing her.
Chisenga said he wanted to divorce his wife Beatrice Mwangwe because of arguments and insults which were her way of communicating to him, adding that every moment spent with her always came with threats and curses.
The couple which had been married for 8 year and have three children were appearing before Solwezi Local Court Magistrate Maureen Chindumba sitting with magistrate Jonathan Maluti.
Mag8istrate Chindumba said both parties had been listened to by the court adding that the court was granting the divorce because they both made it clear living apart was best.
“After you both stated each one’s problems, the court’s findings are that your marriage has no communication, cheating is a part of it as well and that the both of you can’t reason with each other, therefore divorce has been granted”, she said.
In granting the divorce Magistrate Chindumba bemoaned the increasing number of divorcing couples in Zambian because God does not manifest in them.
She said a marriage contract was a thorny quest that two people decided to take together.
She couples needed to learn that God was the key solution in any issue with which marriage brought because prayer was the biggest medicine.
“In marriage people learn to know each other for it is the only way you will live in harmony with your partner and avoid all these divorce cases. With marriage comes many challenges and the devil has many ways it can come at you, mule kosa muma pepo nga mwikale imyaka iyingi pamo”, she said.
Magistrate Chindumba ordered Chisenga to pay his wife K20,000 in compensation and K500 for child maintenance.
