A FISHERMAN of Chirundu is nursing serious wounds in the hospital after escaping from the jaws of a crocodile which attacked him while fishing on the Zambezi River.

Area councillor for Mushungu ward Mr. Ben Munsaka who confirmed the incident said Mostard Chamudulungwe of Sianzembwe village was attacked around 01:00hours yesterday.

The crocodile has left Chamudulungwe with a big wound on his left thigh while his friend he was with escaped unhurt.
Mr Munsaka said Chamudulungwe was currently admitted to Mtendere Mission Hospital for treatment.

He said people have now resorted to fishing at any time due to drought and cautioned the community that they should desist from fishing at very awkward hours.

Meanwhile, some residents of Makanya village were irked by the delayed from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW)to kill a stray lion that was terrorizing villagers.

The concerned villager, Mr. Bernard Sianene charged that the people were not free to move about while parents were ever in fear about the safety of their school-going children due to the presence of the cats.
“We have been reporting this matter to the relevant authorities but there is nothing that is being done. We can kill the lion when we want to but we do not want to take the law in our own hands,
“That is why we keep asking the DNPW officers to come and correct the situation. We understand the law very well that we are not supposed to kill wild animals but if they start killing the people we will kill them because we feel we are not protected,” he said.

Mr. Sianene complained that when a wild animal was killed in the village, the DNPW officers were quick to respond and make sure they found the killers for action.
“But when it is human life in danger they are slow to react, that is why people also turn against and beat them,” he said
He has appealed to the department to address the issue in Makanya village before a life was lost.
