STANBIC Bank Zambia in conjunction with Kansanshi Mine has donated 500 reusable sanitary wear to Kikombe Primary School’s management and pupils in Solwezi as a mean to eliminate barriers to education.

FQM through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives commenced a project in January 2018 called Jimuka through which the mine was set to distribute sanitary wear to 22 schools involving 2,000 pupils.

Speaking during the donation, Head corporate and investment banking , Helen Lubamba said in commemoration of Women’s Day which fell on the 8th March every year, the bank picked on the project to advocate for women’s health and girl’s education.
She said the future of Zambia was in the hands of children therefore the responsibility of ensuring education in healthier condition should not be bestowed on the government alone but the private sector and stakeholders as well.

“We believe reusable sanitary wear will promote proper hygiene on top of being affordable and easy to clean compared to regular disposable pads and the traditional methods commonly used in the rural areas,
“Our goal is to ensure our girls stay in schools so they contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s economy”, she said.

Speaking at the same event FQM public relations manager Godfrey Msiska said it would be through joint ventures that success could be brought to the girl child education.

He said improving the girl child’s menstrual hygiene would contribute to empowering them with education and was a way to discourage them from going into early childhood marriages.
