SUSPECTED tax drivers have vandalized a road pavement at Zanimuone turnoff for them to have easy access to the other side of the road
Patriotic Front youth chairperson for Chunga ward Levy Kapotwe confirmed the development to The Sun.
He explained that on Thursday he received a call that suspected taxi drivers had demolished the pavement so that they have easy access between lanes separated by bolders.
He explained that one suspect has been identified after a tip from his fellow drivers and the matter has been reported to Kabangwe Police.
The youth leader warned drivers to desist from demolishing the pavement as it was put to prevent road accidents.
Mr Kapotwe said it was unfortunate that some drivers could vandalise property when government has spent a lot of money on the construction of the Lusaka Ndola dual carriageway.
Chunga ward youth vice chairperson Rabson Chisha described the development as retrogressive, because the road was constructed using taxpayers’ money for national development.
“As PF in Chunga ward we are very disappointed with these taxi drivers for destroying public infrastructure. This is retrogressive. This road was constructed using taxpayers’ money; we just want to warn all those working against development that the law will catch up with the offenders because we already have a suspect,” he said.
Meanwhile PF Chunga ward councilor Kayula Kambani visited the area to inspect the damaged pavement and expressed disappointment over the matter.
She noted that the road had become a danger to motorists who try to turn at the point where it has been damaged.
She warned perpetrators that the law would catch up with them once investigations are concluded.
The newly constructed Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway from Mandevu to Six Miles has no turning points hence motorists have no option but to utilize the roundabout.
