A man in Lusaka has been ordered to pay K6, 500 for deflowering and impregnating a grade 11 pupil.

The Chilenge Local Court ordered Godfrey Zimba, of Livingstone, to compensate Blackson Mwanza, of Lusaka’s Chalala area, over his school-going 18-year-old daughter.

Mwanza told the court that he sued Zimba because he wanted him to pay compensation and take care of his daughter in whom he had invested so much.

“I am no longer staying with my daughter because Zimba’s mother came to collect her but he has not been willing “to sit down and make payment,” Mwansa said.

But in his defence, Zimba told court he was willing to compensate Mwanza for his daughter and even marry her when he finds money.

He stated that the reason he had not been able to meet Mwanza to discuss the issue is because he was away in Livingstone.

“I am not happy that he beats her when he knows fully well that she is pregnant,” he complained.

But local court justice, Ackim Phiri, ordered Zimba to compensate Mwanza saying he was wrong not to have followed procedure if he really wanted to marry the latter’s daughter.

The court justice also advised Mwanza to collect his daughter and return her to school.

“There’s a policy which allows girls to return to school after they deliver, votakatila vinasila kudala,” he stated.
