Zambia Hockey search for K2.1 Million for Olympic qualifiers

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Zambia Hockey Association have unveiled their budget ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers slated for South Africa.

Johannesburg will host the 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers which will run from October 29th to November 6th 2023. The Hockey Association is searching for K2.1 Million to send both the women’s and men’s team for the Olympic Qualifiers which will feature the best teams in Africa.

Hockey Association General Secretary Elvis Bwalya said the association was determined to send the two Zambian teams to South Africa to stand a chance of qualifying for the Olympic Games. With Zambia Hockey having competed at the Junior Olympics a few years ago, the federation was determined to ensure that Zambia is represented at the senior Olympic games.

Bwalya noted that it is crucial that the two teams go and compete at the Qualifiers in South Africa because the tournament is the only gateway to the games in Paris. He appealed to government through the Ministry of Sports youth and Arts and the National Olympic Committee to help the Association raise the funds needed for the qualifiers in South Africa.
