Copper Queens making progress

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZAMBIA National Womens team coach Bruce Mwape says the Copper Queens are making progress to ensuring that the team is game for the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup scheduled to kick off next month in Australia and New Zealand.

The Copper Queens have continued with preparations for the 3-part European friendly series with sessions held at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and Sportclub Oberreichenbach e.V in Germany.

Mwape said the team has covered the areas they need to work on before facing Ireland in the first international friendly match slated for June 23 in Furth.

“So far so good the players are doing everything possible to make sure that training is going well. And at the moment we are just preparing for the friendly game against Ireland which will be on the 23 so everything is okay.

“We have covered most of the things. We have done tactics; techniques and we are now doing the physical part and every player did well. Even on coordination there is an improvement now compared to the way we played against Tanzania. This time around things have changed and there is a lot of improvements and coordination is okay,” Mwape said.

Mwape said the international camp in Germany has helped the team to focus on the task ahead of making sure that the team is prepared for the World Cup.

On new Copper Queens technical adviser, Mwape said; “Lisa has brought her experience from where she was working and she has worked for so many countries and clubs so the experience that she is bringing will help our team a lot and the relationship is okay we cant say there is any friction from both the players and the technical bench she has been welcomed.”

After facing Ireland on June 22 the Copper Queens will play another 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup bound country Switzerland on June 28 before a crunch fixture against DFB-Frauen of Germany on July 7th.
