Economist urges gov’t to find local solutions to grow the economy

By RUTH YAMBAYAMBA

ECONOMIST Kelvin Chisanga has urged Government to prioritise local solutions in a bid to improve the economy.

Mr Chisanga said putting all efforts on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will not help in growing the economy.

He said the government needs to make the environment for small and medium enterprises more favourable as the sector is critical in growing the economy.

Mr Chisanga said the SMEs can play a critical role in improving the economy if given the necessary support.

He said currently the SMEs cannot have access to finances because the conditions are cumbersome and this need to be addressed.

“This issue of Government only looking to the IMF will not help the country in any way. Government needs to look elsewhere to see the economy grow.

Government need to ensure that SMEs are empowered in that way, there will be a lot of economic activities in the country to enable the economy grow significantly.

“If we prioritise local solutions it will help a lot than us looking for aid,” Mr Chisanga said.
