Kitwe Deputy Mayor warns MPs over CDF

By ROGERS KALERO

KITWE Deputy Mayor Felix Malasha has warned Members of Parliament to desist from frustrating Government’s efforts of delivering on the campaign promises of improving people’s lives in various areas and ensure that they properly utilise the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and Ward Fund.

Mr Malasha, who is Parklands Ward Councillor, said while councillors were working hard to fulfill their campaign promises, some MPs were frustrating the good works of President Hakainde Hichilema whose procedures were not complicated to follow.

He has accused some MPs of frustrating CDF projects by not following the guidelines in the implementation of the government projects.

Mr Malasha said on Radio Icengelo that he was shocked that some MPs were failing to follow the guidelines of allocating CDF and Ward Fund to implement various developmental projects

“As councillors, we are working in line with the vision of President Hichilema of delivering development without being greedy, selfish and stingy. But some MPs are frustrating the good works of the President. We do not know what kind of tediousness it is that some of these MPs have. When we find out that you are frustrating our efforts and those of President Hichilema, we will attack you like red ants and you will regret your actions,” Mr Malasha said

And investigations have revealed that almost a month ago, the Deputy Mayor had stormed one of the offices at the Kitwe Civic Centre where he bitterly complained that the Ward Fund for his area was not received and threatened he would go to the media to expose the MPs frustrating CDF projects in his area.

Mr Malasha said the CDF and Ward Fund was not for MPs or CDF chairperson or Ward Development Committee, but for President Hichilema who had increased the fund from K1.6 million to more than K28 million under the UPND government.

“This is not the PF, this is the UPND. I will not allow you to get away with this. This money is not for the MP or the CDF Chairman. It is for President Hichilema. So, I want money for my ward or else I will go to the radio station and expose whoever is involved” he said

Further investigations have revealed that councillors at the Kitwe City Council are getting increasingly worried that time was moving fast and have not delivered anything tangible to the residents, apart from the pavers on Independence Avenue which motorists have condemned.
