MPs offices not partisan, says First Deputy Speaker

By ANDREW MUKOMA

FIRST Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Malungo Chisangano has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to avoid making constituency offices partisan.

Ms. Chisangano said that MPs should realize that their offices were meant to accommodate everyone, despite one’s political affiliation.

She said that as an extension of the National Assembly, Constituency offices are expected to attend to people’s challenges and needs on national development.

Ms Chisangano pleaded with Zambians to understand that MPs were not always supposed to be in the offices, but that they were expected to attend to national duties such as making laws in Parliament, approving national budgets and offer checks and balances to the government.

Ms. Chisanago was speaking when she visited the Katombora Constituency office in Kazungula on Saturday.

And Katombora Member of Parliament Clement Andeleki has asked the office of First Deputy Speaker and theNnational Assembly to consider delimiting his Constituency because it was too vast.

Dr. Andeleki said that his Constituency was the second largest in the Country.

He said as such, it was difficult for his officers to visit all areas and provide adequate services to the people due to its vastness.

Dr Andeleki said that the visit of the first deputy speaker was historic saying that it has never happened before.
