‘Fantastic season’ – Mutapa happy with NAPSA Stars progress

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

NAPSA Stars coach, Perry Mutapa has described the pensioners campaign in the 2022/2023 FAZ Super League season as one of the best seasons for the Pensioners.

After winning promotion from the national division one league, NAPSA Stars put up a spirited fight to almost snatch the second spot, which would have made it possible for them to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup. Mutapa said he was proud of his charges who never recorded defeat at their new home venue, the National Heroes Stadium.

Speaking after Friday’s 1-1 stalemate against Forest Rangers at the Heroes Stadium, Mutapa said he will not be disappointed if NAPSA fails to finish second this season.

“The aim was to stabilize but football is a project and I’m happy with the progress we have made. Last season coming from Division One league, winning the ABSA Cup and putting good fights and playing better football especially at our pitch, the only thing we can ask for is to improve next season because football is a project and I’m always happy if there is progress,” Mutapa said. “Yes, we could have wanted the second slot because by week 30, we were second and we were in a position to qualify but it hasn’t been,” he said.

Asked to describe the season for the Pensioners Mutapa said, “Fantastic season we have had. I think we went through a bad patch we didn’t do well but the most important thing, big teams, the defending champions came here and we gave them a bashing, Buffaloes and all the big teams except the games we played at Edwin Imboela Stadium or Nkoloma that’s where we lost some home games. “With one game remaining to conclude the Super League, Mutapa said he was looking forward to the new season. I’m very happy going into the next season the way this season has been, I believe we have room to improve both the players and the technical bench,” Mutapa said.

After 33 rounds of matches played in the Super League, the pensioners have recorded 13 wins, 11 draws and nine defeats and have 50 points.
